Blue

Collar

Mentality

We wanted to create a collection that drew inspiration from the blue collar upbringing of our co-founders, Chad and Nick.  We used colors and fabrics that reminded us of what we saw everyday growing up watching our fathers go to work.  While growing up, Chad's father was the owner of a retail/wholesale tire shop.  Chad grew up around the gritty, grimy, loud conditions that you encounter when working on automobiles and roaming around tire warehouses.  During his childhood, Nick's father was a firefighter.  Nick witnessed the rough circumstances, hard work and determination it takes to put your life on the line everyday.  We aimed to incorporate tough fabrics and durable style mixed with fashion forward designs that are simple, yet powerful.  The color pallet we decided to use for our items included black, grey and white.  We decided to use these colors as they are the 3 colors in our logo, but also tie into the over feel of concrete like colors we grew up seeing in our environment.

The collection includes 2 T-shirts (100% ringspun cotton in charcoal with light grey printing and black with light grey printing), a lightweight raglan style crewneck sweatshirt (gunmetal heather grey chest and black sleeves) with an embroidered patch logo on the center chest, a trucker style snapback hat (black with light grey stripes and white contrast stitching/embroidery) and a heavy canvas workman’s jacket available in two colors (charcoal with an embroidered patch logo on the left chest, also available in black).

We wanted our designs to have the versatility to be worn alone or layered.  Some of the added features on each of our designs include a tagless printed label on the inside of the T-shirts, printed logo on the left sleeve of the T-shirts, a woven label sewn on the bottom/left hem of the T-shirts, woven labels with size labels on the interior of both the crewneck and the jacket and embroidered patches sewn onto both the jacket and crewneck.  All of our screen printed items are printed in our very own print shop.  All of the sewn on labels and patches were sewn on in our shop's sewing room.  As Smooth Gear also functions as a screen printing shop in addition to being a streetwear brand, we utilize the hard work ethics instilled in us as kids to ensure that all of our products are of the highest quality.  We take pride in the quality of all of our printing and embroidery and only use the best products to create our line.

With this collection we wanted our products to showcase the style of the people that we grew up around and have become ourselves... simple, yet powerful.
